Proximity / Contactless Cards
A proximity keycard, often called a prox card, uses a coil antenna, capacitor, and integrated circuit (IC) to communicate with a reader. The reader emits a radio frequency (RF) field that the card’s antenna and capacitor resonate with, powering the IC. The IC then transmits the card’s unique ID back to the reader via radio waves.
